GPR Scanning Sewer Rodder Sonde Utility Locating

Fort Walton Beach, Florida

2026

College Campus – Directional Drill Corridor

SubScan was contracted to locate and mark all private underground utilities within a proposed directional drill corridor on a college campus in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, in support of a fiber optic conduit installation. The work area spanned parking lots, landscaped grounds, and an active construction zone, with mature tree roots and subsurface debris throughout. The site proved to have a notably complex utility environment, including electric, gas, water, sewer, storm, and several unidentified lines packed into a relatively narrow corridor. A standout finding was that several existing 811 gas marks on site were identified as inaccurate, re-marked by SubScan, and later confirmed through potholing by the local gas utility, validating the locate work in the field.

B Street – Stormwater Project

SubScan was contracted to locate and map all underground utilities within the right-of-way of B Street in downtown Pensacola, Florida, along a corridor extending from Garden Street southward to Pensacola Bay. The work supported a city stormwater infrastructure project, with utility data needed to inform design and engineering before any ground was broken. The corridor ran through a dense urban environment with a long history of buried infrastructure, requiring a methodical approach to separate active utilities from older or abandoned lines. All identified utilities were marked and documented to give the engineering team a reliable baseline for the stormwater system design.

Santa Rosa Beach, Florida

2025

Trae Lane – Private Residence

A developer contracted SubScan to locate and mark all private underground utilities within a designated pool construction area at a residential property in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Despite the modest footprint of approximately 1,000 square feet, the site contained a surprisingly dense mix of utilities, including gas, electric service lines, coaxial cable, an Ethernet cable, and a sanitary sewer lateral confirmed via pipe camera inspection. A potable water line sharing a common trench with the sewer lateral was also interpreted from GPR data and marked, though challenging soil conditions required that finding to be flagged as a lower-confidence locate. The work gave the contractor a clear picture of what was present before breaking ground.

Garden Street – Commercial Development

SubScan was contracted to locate and map all underground utilities within the right-of-way and subject parcel at the corner of Garden Street and A Street in Pensacola, Florida, in support of a proposed convenience store development. The downtown location brought with it a congested and layered utility environment typical of older urban corridors, where multiple generations of infrastructure occupy the same right-of-way. Using a combination of GPR and electromagnetic tracing, SubScan identified and marked water, sewer, gas, and communication utilities throughout the work area, with depth estimates included where site conditions allowed, producing a utility dataset that fed directly into the project’s design phase.
